Introduction by Mario Nordio
The book “Oltre la soglia: Iran Cultura, arte, storia” (Beyond the Threshold: Iran’s Culture, Art and History), published by Marsilio and edited by Mario Nordio, documents and investigates the themes of “Rosengarten-Golestan”, the initiative that the Department of Italian Culture for the Autonomous Province Bolzano/South Tyrol dedicated to Iranian culture at the beginning of 2004.
Glancing through the book, the reader can peruse the many elements that contributed to outlining a comprehensive portrait of the country: from conferences to movies, from exhibitions to virtual twinning between two schools from Bolzano and Shiraz.
On this occasion the documentary was also shown about “Rosengarten Golestan” by Filmwork for the Italian television RAI station.
In the opening lines of his introduction to the book, Mario Nordio efficaciously expresses the reasons of the fascination exercised by this country as well as the roots of its complexity, “Iran is the place the West considers to be the beginning of the lesser known East, or the most eastern extremity of itself. (…) Iran has created a civilisation that covers a very long time span which is able to renew itself in order to give its own shape to cultures coming through from the East, West or from nearer areas and then in turn redistribute”.
