April 13 - June 16, 2002
inauguration Friday April 12, 2002
Conservatory Claudio Monteverdi, Bolzano

Take a look at the programm of the opening day

Musicaxocchi is a multidisciplinary exhibiting project that, through a singular course at various stages in the city, wants to analyze the relationship running between contemporary art and music, visions and sounds.
The central theme of the show - curated by Paola Tognon - pivots on the comparison of some of the most stimulating cultural realities operating within the visual and music field, by looking for affinities, contrasts and symmetries, at a sensorial level. The art works are dislocated in centers and institutions of the town.

Exhibited artists
Exhibited are masterpieces thematically linked to the project and of recognized importance, as the "Nantes Tripthyc" or the videos "Anthem" and "The Passing" by Bill Viola(Trevi Center); the famous sound sculptures by Chen Zhen: "Un-Interrupted Voice" and "Sound Library" (at the Conservatory); the installation "Ninna Nanna per barriques e archi" (Lullaby for barriques and strings) by Mario Airò (at the firm Alois Lageder - Löwengang Estate in Magrè); and the video "Magnetic Field" by Marzia Migliora (at the Palace 2 of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano); together with those projects that were especially created for the exhibition. Among these, at the new Municipality Theater Zanuso and in the Auditorium of the Palace 2, projected is a new video by the artist Grazia Toderi, whose most recent research revisits in a poetical key the intensity of the spaces that host audience and shows (stadiums, theaters, cities in aerial shots). Botto & Bruno install their work at ADB: in the meeting room for the students, a relevant wall paper: "Tell me, what do you see". In the meeting room their proposal of a new video in which the characters communicate through the use of symbols coming from music environments. Olivo Barbieri exhibits at the Hotel Città a recent series of photographs dedicated to the futuristic Museum of Contemporary Music in Seattle, projected by Frank O. Gehry. Silvia Levenson carries out at the Conservatory the project "Silence, children" that narrates of the small and trite anguishes of our life through an imaginary presence/absence of children and musical vitreous instruments. Laila Kongevold - in a contrasting view - creates in the same building a big installation dedicated to the theme of silence. Maurizio Donzelli chooses to operate inside the Schullian Greenhouse with a work that, by using different materials, wants to reproduce the analogy of things, their image and sound. The Granular Synthesis follow their line of research acted out for the XLIX Biannual of Venice with the video/sound installation "Feld", newly elaborated for the Trevi Center, where also the Atelier Van Lieshout operates, by introducing the project "The Instrument", a site/armchair/sculpture dedicated to the listening of sounds.
The contemporary composer Heinrich Unterhofer intervenes with a quartet composed for Eyemusic titled "Im Spiegel seiner Augen" (Deep down his eyes); it will be recorded by RAI, amplified in various seats of the exhibit, and performed by the students of the Claudio Monteverdi Conservatory at the inauguration. The Subsonica are present with a videoclip "Discolabirinto", taken from "Zerovolume"; an innovative artistic project in which a music piece is composed and mixed for the perception of blind people.
